Alma “Ruth” Brooks, a cherished mother, grandmother, and beloved member of her community, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026, in Jackson, TN, after a courageous six-year battle with dementia. She was born on November 26, 1931, in Mississippi, where her remarkable journey began.
Ruth was a devoted homemaker, pouring her love and energy into creating a nurturing home for her family. Her unwavering dedication to her children was matched only by her adoration for her grandchildren, who brought her immense joy and were truly the greatest treasures of her life. Ruth exemplified the spirit of family and instilled the values of love and faith in each of her beloved ones.
Her deep love for the Lord shone brightly in every aspect of her life. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Lexington, where she contributed her time and spirit to the congregation, embodying a life of faith that inspired those around her. Ruth’s joyful heart and vibrant personality were reflected in the way she engaged with family, friends, and her faith community.
She found delight in life’s simple pleasures and loved to play golf, spending time outdoors amidst nature’s beauty. It was just one of the many ways she embraced life, always looking for joy and adventure. Ruth’s legacy is one of warmth, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to her loved ones.
Ruth is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Christie Dawn Brooks, Shelley “Vania” Brooks, her grandchildren John “Tyler” Dotson, “Tori” Vania Dotson, Christie Nichole “Nickie” Wood, Joseph Clayton, Keith Clayton, her great grandchildren Adam Knox Dotson, Greyson Tyler Dotson, Joshua Carter Dotson, and her nephew, Spencer Nix, along with many more niece’s and nephew’s. They carry forward her spirit, drawing strength from the values she instilled in them throughout her life.
She now joins her dear parents, Choral Knox Jackson and Mary Poindexter Jackson, her beloved son, Lanny Clayton, and the father of her children, John Brooks, in eternal rest.
