Close call for THP trooper as vehicle slams into cruiser during traffic stop

DAVIDSON COUNTY, Tenn. — The Tennessee Highway Patrol released dash cam footage from a traffic stop that highlights the importance of slowing down and moving over when you see emergency lights.

Monday, THP shared video that showed a trooper who had just stopped a vehicle traveling 97 mph in a 70 mph zone with snow still on the shoulders of the roadway.

Seconds later, another vehicle struck the trooper’s cruiser, nearly pinning him between the guardrail and the stopped car.

The THP says the trooper thankfully walked away from the crash, but reminds drivers to slow down and move over. It is a matter of life and death for those in the force.

The crash remains under investigation.
