Jai Templeton announces bid for McNairy County Mayor

PRESS RELEASE FROM JAI TEMPLETON:

SELMER, Tenn. — With a proven record of public service and a history of guiding McNairy County’s progress, Jai Templeton is announcing his candidacy for McNairy County Mayor.

“Economic growth, strong performance, and a deep respect for the taxpayers have guided my entire career in public service,” Templeton said. “I’m ready to get to work on day one.”

With a focus on community prosperity, conservative fiscal management, emergency preparedness, and governmental stability, there is no question Templeton brings the experience and steady leadership needed to step back into the role.

Templeton previously served as McNairy County Mayor from 2006 to 2011, reducing debt, building fund balances, and avoiding tax increases during the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. Under his administration, the county earned its highest bond rating in history, reflecting effective financial management. He became known for forging partnerships that moved the county forward.

Recognizing Templeton’s unwavering commitment to rural Tennessee, Gov. Bill Haslam appointed him Deputy Commissioner and later Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Agriculture. As Commissioner, he co-chaired the Governor’s Rural Task Force, helping McNairy and other counties move out of economically distressed status and opening new opportunities for residents and industry.

In 2019, Templeton returned to West Tennessee to focus on the family farm, manage rental investments, and serve as Community Development Manager for Centennial Bank. He is now Director of Development for the UT Foundation, supporting programs that position students for long-term success. He is on the board of directors for TRICOR as appointed by Gov. Bill Lee, and serves on the boards for AgLaunch Holdings and Lifespan Health.

Templeton earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Union University and an MBA concentrating on human resources from UT Martin. He is a Certified Public Administrator through UT’s Institute of Public Service and is a licensed principal auctioneer and affiliate real estate broker.

A 6th generation McNairy Countian, Templeton and his wife, Allison, have three grown children, three grandchildren, and a fourth on the way.

The McNairy County Mayor Republican party primary election is May 5, followed by the general election on Aug. 6. For more information or to schedule an interview with Templeton, call (731) 646-1083 or email jai.j.templeton@gmail.com.
