Boil water notice issued after truck crashes into fire hydrant
DYERSBURG, Tenn. – The City of Dyersburg has issued a boil water notice after a truck crashed into a fire hydrant on Thursday morning.
According to a Facebook post from the city, “the City of Dyersburg Water System has experienced a water main line break which has resulted in a significant loss of pressure in the drinking water system.”
The city said the boil water notice is a precautionary measure and the city is working to repair the break. “As a precautionary measure we are asking customers to boil water before using for consumption. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience while we work to resolve this problem.”
“The City of Dyersburg Water System is actively repairing the line break. Once system pressure is restored, bacteriological tests will be conducted throughout the system. We will inform you when tests show no bacteria and you no longer need to boil your water. We anticipate resolving the problem within the next 48 hours,” wrote the city.
The city said the water will be tested for bacteria once the water pressure has been restored.
Residents are asked to not drink or use water before boiling it. The water must be boiled for a minimum of three minutes and then cooled before being used or residents should use bottled water. Do not use water for brushing teeth, preparing food, or washing dishes before boiling it in order to kill bacteria.
If you experience nausea, cramps, headaches or diarrhea following drinking water, the city encourages you to seek medical treatment.
