Attempted murder suspect remains on the run after a police officer was shot
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Law enforcement officials are continuing the search for a man accused of shooting a Memphis police officer on Thursday night.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) issued a statewide Blue Alert shortly before midnight on Friday morning for 40-year old Danell Maxwell. According to the TBI, Maxwell is wanted for the Criminal Attempted First Degree Murder. Maxwell is also facing charges of aggravated assault and employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.
The TBI said he was last seen wearing dark clothing and an orange and green reflective vest. Maxwell is 5′10″ and weighs approximately 180 pounds. He has brown eyes and black hair. His last known direction of travel is unknown. According to the United States Marshals Service, he was last seen in Memphis.
He is considered armed and dangerous. You are urged to call law enforcement if you see him. Do not approach him.
Maxwell has been placed on the Tennessee Most Wanted List by the TBI. There is a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to his arrest.
According to WMC, the Memphis police officer was shot at approximately 8:15 p.m. on Thursday night in the Memphis Parkway Village neighborhood. Interstate 24 was briefly shutdown as the officer was rushed to Regional One Hospital for treatment. According to WMC, the officer is in critical condition but expected to recover.
A Blue Alert is issued by the TBI when a suspect remains on the run after a law enforcement officer has been seriously injured or killed.
