DEVELOPING STORY: Accident shuts down traffic on Tennessee River bridge near Savannah
HARDIN COUNTY, Tenn.–A developing story out of Hardin County as an accident closed down traffic on the Highway 64 Tennessee River bridge at Savannah. It’s a story we first brought to you on WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News at 10 Thursday night.
Our WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News tipsters alerted us of a large first responder presence in the westbound lanes of Highway 64.
According to the Downtown Rickey Brown Traffic Spotters Network, just after 9:30 p.m., city of Savannah Police officers were turning traffic back at the red light just before the reaching the Tennessee River bridge heading west on Highway 64. They also told drivers to expect the highway heading west to be closed for a while due to a serious accident on the levee involving multiple injuries.
Tipsters told us they saw several ambulances, troopers with the Tennessee Highway Patrol and deputies with the Hardin County Sheriff’s Department
were on the scene.
Our crew on the scene says as 11 p.m. Thursday night, the roadway was still shut down.
We reached out to both the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Highway Patrol and are awaiting additional information about the accident.
