Blue Suede Rockabilly Weekend rocks the Hub City

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Blue Suede Rockabilly Weekend is officially underway in the Hub City, hometown of rockabilly legend Carl Perkins.

This year’s event is all about celebrating the 70th anniversary of “Blue Suede Shoes” in true style, with what organizers are calling the rockabilly party of the year. Fans, locals, and visitors are coming together to honor Jackson’s rich musical heritage with a full weekend of retro fun, live music, and themed events.

Randy Williams, business development manager for Aspen Power, says community support and volunteer help are key to making weekend events like this possible.

“They are a real blessing to us to have the scout troops come out and help us. Because we just don’t have enough manpower to take care of everything we want to take care of in one day,” Williams said. “We’ve set aside an area that is for camping, so they can come and camp by letting us know in advance so we can prepare things for them, and we just appreciate their assistance so much.”

With the city leaning into its rockabilly roots, organizers say the anniversary celebration aims to spotlight both the legacy of Carl Perkins and the ongoing role music plays in Jackson’s identity and economy.
