FHU associates Victorian Tea Party invites guests into an enchanted garden

PRESS RELEASE FROM FREED-HARDEMAN UNIVERSITY:

HENDERSON, Tenn. —— A longstanding spring tradition at Freed-Hardeman University returns Saturday, May 23, from 12-4 p.m., as the Associates host the 24th annual Victorian Tea Party, a fundraiser supporting student scholarships.

Set at the historic Hardeman House and lawn (307 White Ave., Henderson), this year’s enchanted garden theme invites guests of all ages to step into a storybook setting while enjoying a full tea service, themed activities, family portraits and more. Tickets are available at fhu.edu/teaparty.

“We always eagerly anticipate this spring tradition that brings generations of friends and family together for a beautiful afternoon. This year might be even more magical than usual because of our enchanted garden theme. Our committee has had the best time designing the menu and venues to bring it to life,” said Kristen Hicks, tea party co-chair. “I love that every ticket purchased helps provide opportunities for FHU students while creating a sweet experience that so many in our community can enjoy year after year.”

This year’s menu includes two hot and one iced tea option: Chocolate Cherry Tea, blending rich chocolate with sweet cherry notes as a nod to Black Forest flavors; Enchanted Afternoon Tea, a light and refreshing blend of black and green teas with a hint of fruit; and Peach Dream Iced Tea, offering smooth peach flavor with a hibiscus finish.

Guests will also enjoy a selection of sweet and savory items, including traditional cucumber sandwiches, along with garden vegetable tea sandwiches, honey scones with lavender apricot butter, parmesan pesto scones with fire-roasted tomato butter, Black Forest mousse cups, white chocolate raspberry blondies, blackberry lemon cupcakes, fairy cheese coins and honeycomb.

Gluten-free and nut-free options are available if pre-ordered at the time of ticket purchase.

Before or after enjoying the full afternoon tea, guests may explore the house and grounds and take part in interactive activities for all ages. Young visitors can enjoy a themed scavenger hunt and story trail, create flower crowns, play dress-up or design their own fairy tea party scene.

Adults may craft beaded flower bouquets, make wildflower seed bombs, play croquet or shuffleboard, or browse the Tea Boutique. A themed photobooth area will also offer a fun background to take casual photos, while a photographer will be available for group portraits.

Tickets are $25 for adults ($28 at the door) and $18 for children ages 3-10 ($21 at the door). Children 2 and under are admitted free. For tickets and event details, visit fhu.edu/teaparty, and follow facebook.com/avictorianteaparty for updates and photos.
