JACKSON, Tenn.–Hundreds of local children in need received early Christmas presents on Wednesday. Christmas came early for students at Washington-Douglas Head Start in Jackson. “This is important not only to us, but to the children as well,” said Marcus Brooks, with the Holy Royal Arch Masons. The Holy Royal Arch Masons donated hundreds of toys. All 250 plus children at the center got a gift. Brooks helped with the toy drive. “We’re just trying to let the children know that they do have someone in the community other than their families and you just want to be there for them,” he said. Charlotte Wilson runs the head start center. “The community that we serve are low income families,” Wilson said. Wilson appreciates the donations and says the toys give children something special to look forward to. “With the economic economy and lost jobs and trying to find jobs, some of the children may not receive some toys and gifts this year,” Wilson said. This the mason‘s fourth year donating toys to children at Washington-Douglas. “The way that east Jackson is portrayed is not true,” Brooks said. “There are still some positive things that are going on in east Jackson.” Teachers also received gift certificates.
