Fire crews respond to fire in Milan Thursday evening

MILAN, Tenn. — The Milan Fire Department responded to a raging fire on College Street Thursday evening.

“It was called in by somebody driving by and seen the smoke,” said Captain Anthony Shostrand with the Milan Fire Department. “They called the police, and once they got here, they seen that it was on fire, and it was fully engulfed by the time the department arrived.”

According to officials with the Milan Fire Department, the fire originated in a warehouse that does not have electricity, so they are trying to figure out how exactly the fire ignited.

It was believed earlier Thursday that the fire was at the Milan Box Company. Instead, the fire broke out at a warehouse located directly across the street from the factory.

“We’re just looking into it. Still investigating. They’re still trying to get it out,” Shostrand said. “We had a lot of tin fall down so we are removing the tin at this time and trying to put all the hot spots out.”

The Medina Fire Department and the Gibson County Fire Department were also on the scene helping to get the fire under control.

“We do know that some embers floated over into the neighbors industrial over there, and we actually put them out before anything happened and got them wetted down,” Shostrand said.

Milan fire officials say crew members were on the scene for about an hour and a half before the fire was fully contained.

Authorities ask anyone with information regarding this fire to call the Tennessee Arson Hotline at 1-800-762-3017.
