Mealer crowned best grocery bagger in the state

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — You may remember the story earlier this week of Luke Mealer, the grocery bagger who was set to compete in the State Baggers competition this weekend. On Saturday, Mealer was picked as not only the best in West Tennessee, but also the best in the state. According to a spokesman for the Tennessee Grocers & Convenience Store Association, Mealer won the Tennessee Best Baggers competition Saturday in Nashville. The 19-year-old Jackson State student, who works at the Kroger in the Lynnwood Place Shopping Center, defeated seven other contestants. Mealer walked away with a $750 Tennessee Grocers and Convenience Store Association scholarship and a $250 National Grocers Association scholarship. He will now represent the state of Tennessee at the national level in Las Vegas in February.
