Homeowner catches accused thieves on camera

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — Doug Sydboten is no stranger to home break-ins; this is the third time his home has been burglarized since 2012. That is why he decided to take action and try to catch the accused thieves in the act. “We decided to put up cameras,” Sydboten said. “We got a really nice system that records here and can be monitored live.” In a little under an hour, three men came and left Sydboten’s home, taking with them more than $3,000 in electronics and leaving him with a big mess. “They just did a lot of damage and just left a huge mess,” Sydboten said. “That’s really the worst thing. Electronics can be replaced, but they trashed the place.” Sergeant Mack Brown with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department said there are measures you can do to keep your home safe. “Close your curtains or your blinds,” Sgt. Brown said. “Even in the video I could see the suspects peeping inside of the house.” Sydboten suggests taking the next step and set up security cameras of your own. “If you can afford one, you should get one,” Sydboten said. “Don’t take this stuff laying down; take some measures and protect yourself.” Sydboten and the sheriff’s department are hopeful that the release of this security video will help bring these men to justice. Sergeant Brown said he is afraid if they are are not caught, they could strike again. “They burglarized this person house,” Sgt. Brown said. “Who knows, they could burglarize someone else’s” If you have any information on this burglary or recognize the men in the video call the Madison County Sheriff’s Department or Crime Stoppers at (731) 424-TIPS (8477).
