Unrestrained children in car lead to several drug charges for driver

TIPTON COUNTY, Tenn. — Police say two children found unrestrained in the back of car is the reason a West Tennessee man is now facing multiple drug charges. On June 21, deputies pulled over James Louis Treadway, III, 35, after they say a 13-year-old and a 6-year-old child in the car were not wearing seatbelts. During the traffic stop, Treadway of Henning, gave officers consent to search his car and said there was no drugs or contraband in it. A search yielded 27.9 grams of what appeared to be marijuana hidden in the child’s purse in the floorboard of the vehicle. Also, nearly $1,200 in cash was found in an envelope in Treadway’s back pocket. Treadway was arrested and the children were released to a family member. Treadway is charged with with Possession of Schedule VI with Intent to Resale, two counts of Child Endangerment, Violation of the Seatbelt Law, Violation of the Child Restraint Law and failure to provide a driver’s license. Treadway is free on a $5,000 bond awaiting his appearance in Tipton County General Sessions Court on July 15 at 9 a.m.
