Lawn and Garden Show attracts hundreds

JACKSON, Tenn. — Hundreds of gardeners flocked to West Tennessee Thursday hoping to improve that green thumb. The 25th Annual Summer Celebration Lawn and Garden Show draws people from across the region. “Look at all the pretty flowers and vegetables and to learn how to cook,” Linda Lewis said, a gardener. Lewis said she traveled from McKenzie to expand her gardening knowledge. “I have some green tomatoes that are bigger than my hand and I want them to be red,” she said. The annual event takes place on the grounds of the West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center. It features a full day of garden talks, tours, and demonstrations. “We hope they’ll pick up some good tips to take home and make their gardens and home lawns more beautiful,” Ginger Rowsey said, with the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture. The event includes a plant sale. Master gardeners say the plants grow well in the area. Also on display, an art exhibit that includes thousands of colorful bottles. “I think the bottles are outstanding,” said Lewis. “I’m trying to figure out what tree I can strip so I can put bottles on it.” The event keeps growers, like Lewis, coming back year after year. “There’s always something new and interesting,” she said.
