Woman charged with false reporting of shooting
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) – An eastern Tennessee woman has been charged with falsely telling police a friend was firing shots in a neighborhood in Johnson City.
Police say 20-year-old Marley Hopson is scheduled to appear in Washington County’s General Sessions Court at 1:30 p.m. Monday to face the charge.
Officers say they responded to a home in reference to shots fired Sunday afternoon. While investigating the call, officers spoke with Hopson. Police say Hopson identified her friend as the shooter, but was little help during the investigation and insisted she didn’t know where the friend was.
Several hours later, the suspect was located at Hopson’s residence. Hopson was transported to the Washington County Detention Center in lieu of a $5,000 bond.
Jail records did not list an attorney.
