Man shot, killed by Germantown police in park
GERMANTOWN, Tenn. (AP) – Authorities say a man holding a rifle has been fatally shot by police in Germantown.
Police in Germantown said they received a message from authorities in Fayette County that an armed and dangerous man who was possibly suicidal was at a park in the Memphis suburb on Tuesday night.
Police said 24-year-old Justin Neil Davis was found inside a vehicle at the park. The area was evacuated and police began talking to Davis by phone and a police car public-address system.
Police said Davis, who was armed with a rifle, then “escalated” the situation, and three officers fired their weapons. David died at the scene.
A Germantown Police Department news release did not say how Davis escalated the situation. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is looking into the shooting.
