Madison Co Sheriff John Mehr sworn in, names new Chief Deputy

MADISON CO., Tenn.– Newly elected John Mehr is sworn in Tuesday morning. After taking his oath, Mehr announced John Lewoczko as his chief deputy. Lewoczko retired from the FBI in 2003 before beginning work with Homeland Security, according to Mehr’s introductory speech for the Chief Deputy.”When he asked me, just before he started to run if I’d consider to be his Chief Deputy, it didn’t take me but a few seconds to say yes,” said Lewoczko. With state and federal experience, these two said significant changes are coming to the department. Sheriff Mehr said he has a lot of ambitions for the department. “We want this to be the best sheriff’s department in the state of Tennessee and we want others to be jealous of us. We want to move into the next century and be on the cutting edge,” he said. Mehr said the two worked together in the past. He said he is confident the department will recognize the duo’s team work skills. “It’s not a “I” thing with him, he’s done it all and so it’s a “we.” We are going to work as a team and the citizens are going to work as a team with us and we’re there to serve each other,” said Mehr. Mehr said his first 30 days in office are going to be spent implementing new programs, making some personnel changes and taking recommendations from employees. The Madison County Sheriff’s seat was vacated by David Woolfork, after he announced his retirement amid a sex scandal earlier this year. Mehr is the first new sheriff elected in Madison County in 20 years.
