Rivals clash on Homecoming night

MILAN, Tenn. – If there’s one thing Milan knows, it’s football. But in a new season, the Bulldogs’ long winning tradition doesn’t mean a thing. “The community is excited about it. They stumped us last year pretty good. They’re not even close to being slowed down. We have our hands full this week,” said Milan head football coach Jeff Morris. That tall order goes by the name of Peabody. Last season, the Golden Tide rolled past the Bulldogs 30-14. At 3-0 this season, Trenton hasn’t lost a step. “We’re a lot more versatile. We’re not predictable,” said Trenton head coach Ricky Woods. Anchoring Peabody’s success is senior Kendrick Malone. The wide receiver turned quarterback is coming off a 250 yards combined performance. Malone says the Milan rivalry is bigger than football. “Baseball, football, soccer, volleyball…it doesn’t matter,” said Malone. “We don’t like Milan.” Both schools have kids who go to the same church and are friends off the field. That goes out the window on Friday. Yellow and purple are the only two colors that matter. “The idea of wanting to beat your hated rival is one thing, but you want to beat your friends,” said Morris. Peabody plays Milan at 7 p.m. on Friday. Highlights and the final score can be seen on 5th Quarter.
