Rev. Al Sharpton Speaks in Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn.- Reverend Al Sharpton was in the Hub City, Thursday night. Sharpton was the featured guest speaker at this year’s Tennessee Baptist Missionary and Education Convention held in Jackson. In the 1960s, Sharpton became a Civil Rights activist and joined the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Organizers said Sharpton’s visit is also to inaugurate the Reverend Marvin Mercer, Senior. This will be Mercer’s second, four-year term as president of the organization. This is the 140th meeting of the Tennessee Baptist Missionary and Education Convention.
