JACKSON, Tenn. — The Jackson-Madison County School Board approved creating a new position within the district’s IT department Thursday night. At the monthly school board meeting, members of the board discussed in length what to do after the sudden resignation of former director of technology, Andrea Temple. Superintendent Verna Ruffin said she believes Temple worked in the district for about nine years. Initially, the board was to vote on creating two new positions within the technology department, a network engineer and a technology operations manager. These would come as a result of the elimination of the director of technology position. Board members Dave Bratcher and Bob Alvey both questioned the new positions. Alvey even stated he did not feel comfortable voting on the issue Thursday night. Board member David Clifft inquired about the director of technology position and the newly approved position. Ruffin said the former position made around $70,000 a year. She said the technology operations manager could make more than $90,000, noting to hire someone with the skill set the district is looking for would require offering competitive salaries for the job field.
