Good food, family time motivates locals prepping for Thanksgiving
JACKSON, Tenn. — The countdown to Turkey Day continues to inch close, and Jacksonians are getting ready to celebrate the day of giving.

The first thing that comes to mind for many residents is eating their Thanksgiving favorites.
“The turkey, ham, greens, green beans sometimes, and we have the candied yams,” said Edith Menks.
“I am a pecan pie type of person, that is my favorite part — and the turkey legs,” Tavish Johnson said.
Resident Wendolyn Humphrey says her and her family are going to enjoy a new addition.
“My mother-in-law is coming over to the house,” Humphrey said. “She is doing all of the great cooking. We are just going to spend time with the family and enjoy the new baby.”

She says with the recent food shortage, she has had a difficult time finding pie crust.
“I had to run to five different grocery stores to get him some pie shells, but other than that, no. I actually did a lot of shopping online to bypass the crowd at the stores,” said Humphrey.
John Schultz says there are a few items that he won’t have to worry about grabbing at the store this year.
“We have our own pecans that we get off trees,” Schultz said. “We have been able to source a few of those things from our farm and that has helped in that situation.”
Along with food, residents say getting to relax and spend time with loved ones is what Thanksgiving is all about.

“It is one of the few days we can do that and not think about what is coming in the coming days. Quality time with family is by far the thing that I enjoy the most about it,” said Schultz.
“Love seeing smiles and reminiscing, having a good time. Taking pictures and jumping around because you don’t get to see all of your family,” Johnson said. “Only times like Christmas and Thanksgiving is when your family comes from all over the world and that is what I love the most.”
Some residents say they are excited to see extended family this year after missing a year due to COVID.
