1 alleged ringleader in cable TV ID theft turns self in
SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) – The Caddo Parish sheriff’s spokeswoman says a man accused in an ID theft case is in a New York State jail, and an alleged ringleader has surrendered in Caddo Parish.
Cindy Chadwick says 42-year-old Willie James Jones of Shreveport turned himself in Wednesday and was booked with 107 counts of identity theft and one of criminal conspiracy.
She says 41-year-old Charles Smith was arrested Thursday in Genessee County, New York, on a warrant accusing him of one count of each crime.
Chadwick says eight people are jailed but Jones’ brother, 39-year-old Michael Jones of Baltimore, is among three at large.
The brothers allegedly paid a Comcast Corp. worker in Tennessee for subscriber data and used it to offer 3,600 supposedly cheap or free Louisiana accounts so they could get commissions.
