9 more counties eligible for federal aid due to weather
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Gov. Bill Haslam says nine more counties, for a total of 45, have been added to a disaster declaration making them eligible for federal aid after they were hit hard by winter storms in February.
A statement from the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency says the aid will help counties with recovery efforts from severe winter weather and flooding from Feb. 15-22.
That includes a devastating ice storm that took down trees and power lines and was blamed in at least 29 deaths.
The nine additional counties announced Friday are Claiborne, Cocke, Davidson, DeKalb, Greene, Hawkins, Pickett, Rhea and Wayne.
