Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Week: Judy Record

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — Students at East Elementary School cheered on principal Judy Record as she ate a real worm this week as a reward for students scoring well on TCAP tests. “I just feel like we’re on the cusp of great things happening,” Record said. Record joined the Jackson-Madison County School System 21 years ago and took over as principal at East Elementary School in 2013. “That is what’s led to this, to me being here, was the love of students in the classroom and hoping to be able to give back to a whole school what I feel like I could accomplish in the classroom,” she said. Record grew up around teaching. Her mom taught Kindergarten in Lexington. “I just knew most of my life that is what I wanted to do,” she said. Record graduated from the University of Tennessee, then went on to do her post-grad work at Union University. “An educator is much more than just having the context knowledge,” she said. Record said her favorite thing about education is the reinforcement and daily interaction with students. Record will now be eligible for the statewide Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month Award. To vote for her or any of the other nominees, visit seehowitaddsup.com.
