SeaPort Airlines seeks to leave Greenville
GREENVILLE, Miss. (AP) – SeaPort Airlines now says it intends to end flights between Greenville and Memphis in September.
Portland, Oregon-based SeaPort in late October was awarded a federally subsidized Essential Air Service contract to restore passenger flights to and from Greenville. SeaPort beat out two other airlines bidding for the route
While the first flight took off March 16, the airline cancelled 13 of its 36 flights scheduled for the first two weeks of service.
The airline filed the 90-day notice to terminate service with the U.S. Department of Transportation.
The Delta Democrat-Times reports (http://bit.ly/1J5e4iq ) the airline recently extended that to 120 days.
Still, under terms of the contract between SeaPort and the Department of Transportation, the regional airline is obligated to continue serving Greenville until a successor airline is chosen.
