MARTIN, Tenn. – University of Tennessee at Martin sophomore Ashia Jones built an impressive resume in just two years with the women’s basketball team. The school announced on Friday the OVC Player of the Year will not return for the 2015-16 season. “This was nor the first instance,” head coach Kevin McMillan said. “There was more than once chance provided.” Coach McMillan did not specify what lead to Jones dismissal, but said it had nothing to do with academic standing or legal troubles in the school’s news release. The reasoning was linked to failure to meet expectations. “We expect our kids to be their best. That’s on the court and off the court,” McMillan explained. “That’s in the community. That’s between practices. We have very high expectations of our kids.” Jones is coming off her best year with the Skyhawks. The Covington native earned All-American and Ohio Valley Conference Female Athlete of the Year last season.
