HICKORY VALLEY, Tenn. — It’s a strange 15-foot pattern that’s causing all kinds of buzz in Hardeman County. “I really don’t know. You wonder maybe if something happened — a spaceship done something or landed out there or something,” landowner John R. Harris said. Harris has been a cattle farmer for more than 40 years and says he has never seen anything like this. “It was unbelievable the way it was designed,” Harris said. Harris says his son is the one who stumbled upon the star-shaped pattern, and that is where the mystery was born. “It looks like it splattered or something out there and made marks all across the pasture,” Harris said. From lightning strike, to grazing cattle, to aliens, everyone has a theory of where the pattern came from. “It could have been anything from E.T. or it could be Independence Day coming up — maybe that has something to do with it,” Wes Tugwell said. Harris says he believes one could surely rule out grazing cattle and lightning strike. “No cattle would do that — that’s impossible,” Harris said. “Some may think it is lightning, but it didn’t knock no hole in the ground.” If you have a degree in science or extra-terrestrial life, Harris says you’re welcome to come out to help solve the mystery. “If a scientist wants to come here, they are welcome to come check it out,” Harris said. “But I’m just going to leave it alone.”
