PARIS, Tenn. — Paris residents are still recovering after a freak storm and dangerous winds rip through the small town Friday afternoon. “It was just a typical day we had a thunderstorm come through,” Carolyn Owens said. “Then the next thing you know, we had this big rain storm, then it was windy and just stopped.” Some say it took just minutes to cause extreme amounts of damage. “It didn’t last that long,” Carol Mannon said. “It wasn’t like it was a long drawn-out thing. It was maybe 10 minutes start to finish.” It was a nasty weather event that came with no warning at all. “We live close enough that we would hear the tornado siren if there was a tornado alert, but even the weather radio didn’t go off,” Mannon said. The National Weather Service did not classify the storm as a tornado. Instead, the NWS says it was straight-line winds behind all the damage. “I felt sorry for all of us,” Owens said. “Some people lost their roof. Some people even lost their house.” Trees that stood in the ground for 100 years are now completely uprooted and some roofs ripped to shreds and expected to cost thousands of dollars to repair. “Nobody was hurt. I am thrilled,” Mannon said. Officials say they will continue to assess the damage throughout the week. The cleanup is expected to last for an extended period of time.
