LEXINGTON, Tenn. — A Lexington storage building goes up in flames Wednesday, closing Highway 412 for more than an hour. Firefighters worked for hours to get flames under control at Beech Lake Storage in Lexington. Officials say no one was hurt in the fire. Authorities were forced to shut down Highway 412 for nearly two hours so crews could access their water supply. First responders say items in the burning building made the fire more difficult to predict. The owners say it was an emotional day to see a family business they’ve owned since 1980 go up in flames. Those who have property inside the unit say it’s been really tough to just stand here and watch. Angel Goodman says she had antiques stored in the building. “I just happened to be coming by when it started blazing,” Goodman said. “I’m sure there are other people who have a greater loss financially and emotionally than I do, but it’s still just a terrible thing just to watch it burn.” Both the Lexington and Henderson County fire departments assisted in putting out the fire. Lexington authorities say they will be monitoring the building over the next several hours to make sure the fire stays out.
