Gerdau breaks ground on $20M upgrade

NORTH JACKSON — A $20 million upgrade is officially under way as steelmaker Gerdau breaks ground Wednesday afternoon on the project. The event marks the beginning of Gerdau’s upgrade to the company’s non-ferrous scrap separation system at its north Jackson steel mill, according to a release from the company. “We have in Jackson a very stable operation,” General Manager Ricardo Anawate said. “We have a very focused working group. Our employees are focused, are engaged in everything we do.” Local officials including Jackson Mayor Jerry Gist participated in the groundbreaking ceremony. Gerdau is one of the largest recyclers in North America, according to the release.
