Police have identified and arrested the man responsible for the shooting that injured 17 people and left one man dead. Travis Steed, 30, now faces two counts of aggravated assault and one county of having a firearm as a convicted felon. “Based on our investigation, at this point we believe he basically pulled his gun and kind of initiated everything,” said Jackson Police Department’s Lt. Tyreece Miller. Police said the mass shooting at Club Karma was not a case of gunmen randomly firing, but rather the aftermath of Travis Steed entering the club with a target in mind. “We do know who he was after. We do know who he was intending to confront. We know that when he pulled, he initiated everything. There was gun fire, and everybody else was struck in the aftermath,” said Lt. Miller. Steed was among 17 people shot and injured in the shooting spree that left Lecarlos Todd, 19, of Memphis dead. Police said they are still waiting on more evidence before they can begin narrowing down who shot Todd. The one thing they are certain about is at least two other people opened fire that night. “Guns were allowed in the establishment. That’s probably the thing most concerning to people. We know at least three guns allowed inside,” said Lt. Miller. Some residents said officials and club owners should do everything in their power to prevent incidents like these from happening again. I don’t think that clubs that can’t handle that kind of stuff, I don’t think they should be open,” said Tiffany Gaugh. Lt. Miller stated he hopes Steed’s arrest will calm community fears that random gunfire is the norm in Jackson. “It’s a little scary to know that something like this can happen in your hometown,” said Gaugh.
