Rotary Club Donates E-Readers
A donation from the Old Hickory Rotary Club is giving a technological leg up to adult learners in the area. A new e-book club was kicked off thanks to the gift of Kindles and books to the Madison County Adult Education Program. Club members hope that the e-readers will help the adult learners in the program increase their reading their reading levels and builds their vocabulary. Program leaders are excited to give their students an electronic edge. “We want to stay up to speed. We don’t want to just hang around and still use just you know paper and pencil type of equipment. We want to be able to use things that they’re going to be able to use in the work force, if they decide to go on to further their education,” said Amanda Bevis, with the Madison County Adult Education Program. “Where I could just touch and flip its light. I don’t have told my hands to keep the pages open, none of those things, you know. You’re just reading it and I became more intense, you know, in my reading aspect. And that’s what hoping to gain with these adults here today.” The first book for the e-book club is The Giver by Lois Lowery.
