Man Shot in Henderson Co. Dies; Suspect to Claim Self Defense
A Henderson County man is now facing a first degree murder charge as the shooting victim died early Monday morning. According to investigators, the father of a five-year-old boy, Darren Putman, 34 was shot twice Thursday by his girlfriend’s ex-husband. Scott Carpenter was arrested for the shooting death outside a home in west Henderson County. Newly released reports indicate Carpenter sent threatening text messages to Putman shortly before the shooting. Investigators also told 7 Eyewitness News they found a chain near the body of the victim, leading Carpenter’s attorney, Mark Donahoe, to believe his client acted in self-defense. “Mr. Carpenter was attacked at the scene of where this happened and was attacked with a weapon. We understand the police recovered a weapon,” said Donahoe. 32-year old Carpenter is facing charges of first degree murder. Carpenter is being held without bond and will appear in court Tuesday morning.
