Details Emerge in Arrest of Pastor

New details have emerged in the arrest of a Union City preacher, accused of soliciting a minor. The pastor of First Church of God in Union City, Grady Evans, was arrested Tuesday and his church searched. Members of the church said they were meeting Wednesday night to discuss Evans’ arrest. The TBI said agents seized more than one computer from the church building. As a leader in his own church, Joseph Brasher, said Grady Evans’ arrest could make non-believers think differently about Christians. “You’d hate to see a guy that gets to that point, anyone get to that point, pastor or not, that feels they have to find their satisfaction in something like that ,” said Brasher. Brasher said someone who was supposed to be a leader of a church, should never do what Evans was accused of doing. “As someone once said, we’re all one step away from stupid,” added Brasher. The 34-year-old pastor was arrested on a warrant out of Fairfax County, Virginia on a charge of using a communication device to solicit a minor. “I was shocked, it was just disbelief. You don’t expect that from anyone, especially a pastor and I was really surprised,” said neighbor, Nettie Rambo. The neighbor to the pastor, his wife, and three children said although they have not lived there long, they seemed like nice people. According to TBI agents, Evans was found on an online teen chat room in late February of this year, for using inappropriate activities and behaviors inside his Union City church. Officers in Fairfax County did not say when Evans would be brought to their area, but did say that during their investigation, officers determined Evans was involved in inappropriate activities and behaviors inside the church. The TBI said at this point, they do not believe there are any potential victims in Tennessee.
