Charter School Group Officially Requests Appeal
A group of Hub City residents who are seeking to open a charter school in Jackson is formally appealing a Jackson-Madison County School Board decision not to accept their application. Helen Owens, board chair for Connection Preparatory Academy said her group sent the formal appeal to the state board of education officials, Wednesday. As 7 Eyewitness News first reported last Friday, the state determined that a proposed charter school in Jackson would not negatively impact the district’s finances enough to deny the application. Late last year, the local board denied the group’s application twice. In November, Superintendent Buddy White indicated the charter school would have a negative impact on the district. If approved by the state, the charter school would be built on Cartmell Street near two existing elementary schools.
