Non-profit groups in West Tennessee listen up. Strengthening communities has kicked off their grant initiative for 2012. Strengthening Communities programs are designed to build capacity in the neighborhoods and community organizations. Grant awards are made each spring and teams must include a community non-profit organization and tenure track professor at the University of Memphis. Organizers said the grants can lead to big things for a number of non-profit organizations. “One major thing is to actually focus clearly on what their missions and goals are in terms of their organization,” said Dr. Martha Robinson with the University Of Memphis. “And then to clearly articulate that. One of the purposes of this meeting is to help them hone their grant writing skills. It’s important to be very clear, very specific about your mission, and your goals and also to articulate it in such way that you communicate that very strongly to the people who are reviewing those, so that they understand what it is that you want to do, how you plans will actually make a difference in your community.” For more information on the grants or for a grant application, look for the link in the “Seen on 7” section of www.wbbjtv.com
