Men Caught, Charged With Jewelry Theft

An elderly couple in West Tennessee searched pawn shops for priceless items taken from their home. Deputies in Benton County said most of things taken in a break-in are never found, still the Camden couple said there was one piece of jewelry they were determined to find. Robert and Reba French had been to three pawn shops since their house was broken into earlier this month. “It’s more than an inconvenience, very much so,” said Robert French. Reba French said that one piece of jewelry she was determined to find had a special meaning. “A silver locket from my 25th wedding anniversary, and that I would like to have back, it was a gift from my mother, ” said Reba French. The Camden couple said the thieves stole many things that were irreplaceable. Including the symbol of their love, their wedding rings; which were recovered at a pawn shop. “I bought for her before I went for service back in the 50’s. I bought those for her and that had sentimental value, as well as being good too,” added Robert. The safe with more than $1,000 of cash, and important documents was also taken. Police charged Robert Carson and Jeremy Groves with aggravated burglary and theft in the break-in. The two were accused of taking the safe to a wooded area, where they opened it enough to get the cash inside. “I think they had probably scoped the house out for a period of time, waiting until the subject were not at home,” said Sheriff Tony King. The Frenchs said they were gone between 2 and 4 the afternoon of the break-in. Based on what the neighbors told them, they believed they missed the thieves by just 30 minutes. “You can’t imagine the feeling it gives you whenever you walk in your house and somebody has been there and taken different things,” said Robert French. “That’s why it’s good to change up your routine, leave a different vehicle around,” added Sheriff King. The silver locket the Frenchs were searching for has an engraved flower on it. If you have any information to help investigators locate it, call the Benton County Sheriff’s Dept. at (731) 584-4632.
