Saturday night, residents organized a vigil for the gunned down Florida teenager Trayvon Martin hoping to bring awareness to the case. More than 50 residents gathered at the Madison County Courthouse Saturday to remember 17 year old Trayvon Martin. Police said George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watchman, shot and killed Martin while he was walking home in a gated Sanford, Florida community. Officials said Martin was unarmed and had tea and a bag of skittles on him at the time of his death. Martin was reportedly wearing a hoodie. Zimmerman claimed Martin looked suspicious and now his family and groups across the nation and Jackson are crying out for the arrest of George Zimmerman. “It’s not race related or anything. It’s just really about us all coming together and making sure our community is safe and that we are active and involved in taking care of everyone,” said Organizer Nicky Phillips. Organizers said they hope the vigil will bring justice for the Martin family.
