Feed the Children Helps West TN Families
A semi-truck stopped by the Carl Perkins Civic Center in downtown Jackson Thursday delivering food and essentials for families and children in need. The Dream Center of Jackson partnered with “Feed the Children” and identified 400 families who would receive the assistance. Each family took home a 25 pound box of food and a 10-pound box of personal care items designed to help a family for a week. Organizers said more than one in three children living in Jackson is considered impoverished. “We’re supposed to be helping the poor. We’re supposed to be reaching out to those that are hurting and those that are in need, and I think each volunteer can go home today, satisfied with knowing that they did something to help somebody else,” said Gail Gustafson, executive director of The Dream Center. Thursday’s distribution is part of Feed the Children’s “Feeding Americans Caravan,” which has helped more than 365,000 families families across the country since it began in 1979.
