Bowers Laid to Rest, Murder Investigation Continues

One of Jackson’s best known athletes was laid to rest, Thursday. Hundreds gathered at the New Saint Luke Missionary Baptist Church in east Jackson, this afternoon for the funeral of Donald Bowers. The 52-year-old Bowers, a Golden Glove and AAU National Champion and local boxing coach, was murdered last week at his home in west Jackson. Some who knew him said he is being remembered as a fierce competitor with a quiet demeanor, who faced his own personal demons. Police have not released any new information on his death and have not identified a suspect.
