Regional Hospital to Move into Unfinished SSI Call Center
The building near the Sportsplex in northeast Jackson that was supposed to house a new Social Security call center has been given a new lease on life. The facility on Bancorp South Parkway has sat abandoned for months after federal funding fell through for the call center, but has now been purchased by Regional Hospital. Regional Hospital said the almost 42,000 square foot facility will soon house its support offices, which serve nine hospitals and six ambulance companies in Tennessee, Kentucky and Arkansas. The healthcare company said it has outgrown its current facility on Sandstone Circle. “With the Social Security call center not being able to occupy, the building we could actually design it as we wanted it,” said Steve Grubbs, CEO of Regional Hospital. “So we had a building structure that was already established, already set and then we could go in and just design it the way we need it, to make it very functional for the hospital.” There are currently 91 workers who perform support services. The hospital expects a 10 to 15 percent growth in the next two years . Regional have not said how much it is costing to lease the facility.
