Questions About McKenzie Historic District

City leaders in McKenzie met with community members, Thursday evening, to discuss some changes headed to the area. Dozens of community members came out to not only voice their opinions about the development of an historical district in McKenzie, but to ask question. Mayor Jill Holland said she hopes the project will educate the public on why many towns state-wide choose historic districting. She believes the designation will also help keep blight and other issues like prostitution out of the city, things the community said they appreciate. “The neighbors are standing up and they are saying, ‘Actually not in my neighborhood and we will do whatever we can to protect them,'” said Mayor Holland. Anyone wishing to join the “Re-Imagine McKenzie Redevelopment Association” Committee can apply at McKenzie City Hall before April 11.
