Jackson City Council discusses budget amendments, upcoming agenda items
JACKSON, Tenn. (WBBJ) – City council met Thursday to discuss a variety of topics that impact the city of Jackson.

Thursday’s gathering began with a budget committee meeting, followed by a work session, then the council’s agenda review. The sessions had many items on the agenda including opportunities for city leaders to ask questions and give comments.
Council members discussed budget amendments that leaders have said are long overdue.
“I think we had great conversation, I think this conversation that we’ve been needing to have for probably 20 years on realistic ways and how we reduce expenditures and how we can plan to grow fund balance and fund our capital and so, I think everyone kind of came away with some homework for the week, to meet back next week, and really dial in on how we can make sure that we’re funding all of our priorities,” Mayor Scott Conger said.

The committee approved some budget amendments and scheduled an additional meeting for May 6 at 1 p.m.
Conger also shared what went on during the agenda review for the upcoming council meeting.
“I mean we have everything from contracts to amendments to our zoning ordinances, to look at our transitioning of our new hires into a hybrid Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System plan, and you have budget amendments,” he said.
Conger described the session as an opportunity for everyone to ask questions and share thoughts about the upcoming agenda.
The next city council meeting will be Tuesday, May 5 at 9 a.m.
