Red Cross Helps Public Prepare for Emergencies
With natural disasters becoming more frequent and stronger in magnitude, leaders with the Jackson Chapter of the American Red Cross held a series of emergency preparedness courses for the public. Thursday’s conference called “Shake, Rattle and Roll Preparedness”, offered a variety of courses, which focused on business continuity and emergency management planning, crisis communication and disaster awareness, along with how to help the disadvantaged or socially vulnerable population. Organizers said, knowing what to do before a disaster strikes, is vital. “Emergency preparedness is something that we always have to focus on and its important that we take the time to be prepared each and every day,” said Jason Bates, with the American Red Cross, Jackson. The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and counsels victims of disasters and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the public to perform its humanitarian mission.
