West Carroll Embraces New Found Success
Before the season started, many thought that the West Carroll War Eagles would finish at the bottom of their district. Now, one win away from making an appearance in the state title game they are a long way from the bottom. The 2011 season has been one for the ages for the football program. They have broken the record for most wins in a season and now they look to take one giant step forward. “There’s some pressure involved but we’ve talked to the kids and our coaching staff has done the same is to embrace the moment,” Head Coach Josh Fronabarger said. “To get this far it doesn’t happen all the time.” On Friday night, the War Eagles will be at war in the trenches. Fighting for a shot at the title. It is something no one thought possible, except West Carroll. “We come out to practice and work hard,” Quarterback Jamal Glenn said. “No one comes out here everyday looking at us. All we know is us. No one else sees us so all we can do is go out on Friday and prove to our doubters that we’re for real.” The small community of Atwood has come out in droves to support the small school. Even the players realize what they have done is something special. “It’s special,” Senior Fullback Carson Suite said. “I’ve been around the high school. I’ve managed when I was in junior high. I managed when I was in 5th and 6th grade and it really means a lot to see this go well.” “They’ve handled it well,” Fronabarger said. “We’ve told them about dealing with it. Just enjoy everything that goes along with it, but we’ve still got to be about football.” Even though records have been broken and the image of the program changed, they will not be satisfied if it ends now. “That’s not a thought right now,” Fronabarger said. “When it does end well think about that. We’re not thinking about when or if it ends. We want to win this game on Friday night.” “There’s no other option but to win,” Glenn said. “So we have two more games to go. No losses. All we need is to win”
