Shoppers Showing Love for Local Businesses
It is always a good idea to buy something nice for your loved one on Valentines Day, but this year, retailers are expected to make a big profit from the holiday. 7 Eyewitness News went to some Jackson businesses who are selling lots of merchandise for people getting ready for the big day. According to a recent survey by the National Retail Federation, those celebrating Valentines Day will spend on average $126 this year. It is an 8.5 percent increase since last year and the most since the NRF began the survey 10 years ago. Flower shops, jewelry stores, and even sports stores said they are feeling the love. “We’re seeing larger orders this year. Instead of just the basic flowers we’re seeing more people get balloons with them also maybe a stuffed bear, candy and sometimes all of the above,” said Chris Maxwell, owner of Sand’s Old Hickory Florist. Retailers told 7 Eyewitness News credit an improving economy to the great sales this year.
