Davis Guilty in Realtor Kidnapping Case

A Jackson man was found guilty of trying rape a local real estate agent. Stephen Davis, 27 was convicted of aggravated kidnapping, attempted rape and robbery for a July 2011 attack on the realtor who was going to show him a house. The jury also assessed the maximum amount of fines on each charge, which totaled $45,000. The punishment ranges are eight to 12 years for aggravated kidnapping, three to six years for attempted rape and three to six years for robbery. On July 20, 2011, Jackson police were called to a house in the 50 block of Derbyshire Drive. Investigators found that Davis, who was using an alias, had made an appointment with a realtor to look at a house. As she was showing him the home police said, Davis grabbed her, then handcuffed, gagged, hog-tied and put her in a closet. He then took her purse and cell phone. During the investigation, police determined that Davis’ intent was to rape the woman. When he was unable to accomplish the rape, he reportedly took the victim‘s purse and cell phone, believing that his phone number in her phone could lead police back to him. Investigators identified Davis as the attacker and arrested him about five hours after the incident. Stephen Davis will remain in custody at the Madison County Jail pending sentencing on March 26. Upon release from prison, Davis must register as a violent sex offender, which means that he will be on the registry for life.
