Friendship Police Chief Recovering, Shooting Investigation Continues

Monday, state troopers were back at the scene of Friday night’s attempted robbery and shooting of the Dollar General store in Friendship. The store located right off Highway 412 has been hit three times. This was the first time an armed robbery took place during business hours. “We all do the same thing for a living. Nobody really understands as much as we do when something like this happens,” said Crockett County Sheriff Troy Klyce. Craig Barbee, 39, of Dyersburg has been charged with attempted first degree murder. He was being held on a $1 million dollar bond. Monday afternoon he was transported to Madison County. He is due back in court Thursday morning. Friday night after being shot in the stomach at the Dollar General store, Police Chief Bill Garrett looked up, saw a familiar face and had some interesting words. “One of the deputies ran up and asked him how he was doing and he said, ‘I thought you were on day shift?,’ even though he was lying on the ground,” Klyce said. Sheriff Klyce would not comment on whether other people were involved. However, a source told 7 Eyewitness News law enforcement investigators are searching for other possible suspects, as for Chief Garrett he is getting better every day. “He has already been cutting up and joking ,which is him. He said he appreciated all the backup from the surrounding areas he just wished it had been 10 minutes earlier,” Klyce said.
