The former Madison County Sheriff’s deputy accused of kidnapping and stabbing his ex-wife appeared before a judge Thursday morning. Chad Lewis, who has resigned from the sheriff’s department was joined in court by a large group of family and supporters. His attorney asked for a low bond because of his years of service to the department. However, the judge said he would treat this case just like any other. The 29-year-old is facing charges of especially aggravated kidnapping, attempted first degree murder, aggravated domestic assault and tampering with evidence. Lewis made his first appearance in Jackson City Court, Thursday, and was ordered to turn in his weapon to police and not to have contact with the victim. His attorney Joe Byrd says his client is innocent. “We don’t know anything about how she got stabbed. We just know she got stabbed, and we know he’s the person that sought medical attention for her,” said Byrd. He is currently free on a $150,000 bond and he will return to court on August 9.
