People with Outstanding Court Fees May Lose License
Thousands of Tennesseans are at risk of losing their licenses if they do not pay court fees. A law that went into effect last July requires anyone with misdemeanor or felony court fees to pay the costs within a year or lose their driver’s license. With the end to the grace period approaching July 1, thousands of Tennesseans are at risk. In Crockett County’s General Sessions court alone, there is more that $117,000 in unpaid court costs. Court Clerk Kim Kail says judges have been actively warning everyone about this. “Since July the first of last year he’s been explaining that to everybody that comes before him that you know you’ve got one year to get these paid.,” said Kail. People that still can not pay their fees after the one year limit can ask their judge for an up to six month extension.
